We are looking to fill an entry level position with a recent graduate of an Engineering or Natural Sciences undergraduate or graduate program.
This position will provide an opportunity for the successful incumbent to acquire training on technology commercialization and spin-off creation and to assist the team during patent filing/prosecution activities. Working under the supervision of the Sr. Business Development Manager, Engineering & Natural Sciences group, the incumbent will assist the team with the commercialization of intellectual property created by Western Faculty researchers, students and staff. The incumbent’s responsibilities may include participating in the analysis of patents, market and industry trends, generating market and competitive intelligence and providing assistance with grant applications and marketing material.
Qualifications
Education:
- Recent graduate of an Engineering or Natural Sciences program
- Candidates are required to have graduated within past 2 years or will be graduating in Spring 2016
- Graduate degree in Engineering or Natural Sciences program is preferred
- Candidates must be a 1st time participant in a Youth Employment Strategy (YES) program
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Demonstrated academic achievements, with prior course and research work in business and/or law would be an asset
- Familiarity with intellectual property, or the aptitude to grasp the concepts of intellectual property protection
- Knowledge of patents and patent law is a strong plus
- Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it concisely and effectively using a variety of tools
- Strong quantitative, qualitative and critical thinking skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic, unstructured environment
- Self-motivated and self-disciplined with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Professional presence with integrity and leadership skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit
