The Administrative Coordinator provides administrative and logistical support to the Associate Vice-President, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships (AVP) to ensure that their time and efforts are focused on priorities that require their direct oversight. The role will review and evaluate requests, inquiries and issues directed to the AVP, and will either respond, refer to another resource, or escalate to the AVP as appropriate. The Administrative Coordinator will independently determine the importance of requested meetings and manage the AVP calendar to ensure their time and attention is directed toward priority issues. 

The Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the logistical and day-to-day activities supporting Western’s Medical Innovation Fellows (MIF) program and various partnered programs for WORLDiscoveries. The role provides relationship initiation and maintenance with MIF program stakeholders, including both internal and external from the entrepreneurship community, collaborating academic institutions and funding partners. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating and managing workshops, conferences and other events related to the MIF Program, and will assist with the engagement of various stakeholders for planning and organization of program elements with the goal of expanding program outreach and promoting the MIF program globally. The role will ensure that project outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary constraints, and will communicate progress updates to internal and external stakeholders. The Project Coordinator also assists in reaching out to potential sponsors and identifying potential funding programs. The role contributes to the overall success of Western’s Entrepreneurship Ecosystem by providing support for the continual building of the MIF program and other programs in the WORLDiscoveries portfolio.

The Program Specialist will manage the launch and delivery of various programs and projects within WORLDiscoveries. The role will manage and coordinate various educational programs related to the development of research technologies, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property development. The Program Specialist will provide administrative leadership and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of program offerings, in alignment with the University’s and Western Research’s strategic plans. The role will contribute to the design of the programs, participate in developing strategies related to program initiatives, and ensure the successful implementation of all aspects of the programs.

The Business Development Manager will lead, develop and implement strategies to enhance commercialization of intellectual property created by Western faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students and staff, and provide support in matters related to industrial interactions and intellectual property management. The role will establish relationships in order to solicit new innovations for WORLDiscoveries, seek out commercialization opportunities and maintain relationships with industry, partners and other stakeholders in order to reinforce and advance the reputation of Western and WORLDiscoveries locally, nationally and internationally.

The Program Specialist will manage the launch and delivery of the WE Empower program, an initiative providing year-round training, support and mentorship to support researchers, postdoctoral trainees or graduate students who identify as women, Indigenous, Black, racialized persons, persons with disabilities or members of the LGBTQ2S+ community. The role will manage and coordinate various educational programs related to the development of research technologies, entrepreneurship, and intellectual property development. The Program Specialist will provide administrative leadership and ensure the efficient and effective delivery of WE Empower program offerings, in alignment with the University’s and Western Research’s strategic plans. The Medical Innovation Fellowship program brings together a cross-disciplinary team to collaborate in medical related innovation and development for approximately 10 months. The Fellows learn about disciplined product development including FDA and Health Canada requirements, Insurance Reimbursement, Intellectual Property, Business Strategies, Creativity Techniques, and Prototyping. The Fellows participate in clinical immersion to observe MDs, nurses, other medical health professionals, and associated technicians at work in clinical settings, such as the operating room. After collecting unmet needs, the Fellows define the clinical problem from all angles, working with each other and Western organizations to innovate around these needs with multiple sets of prototyping cycles and bench top testing.

The ultimate goal is for the Fellows to bring a new product into the realm of medical innovation. We are seeking 6-8 Fellows for an appointment beginning in August 2022 and lasting approximately 10 months.

Innovation fellowship programs have been developed to immerse highly talented scientists, engineers and clinicians in training and research environments that build innovation leaders and create novel medical technologies.  In collaboration with the Executive Director, WORLDiscoveries, the Program Director will lead the Western Medical Innovation Fellowship (MIF) program, and develop strategies, policies and processes to secure funding opportunities for the program.  The Program Director will develop and maintain relationships with industry, donors, government and other stakeholders, develop strategic plans, and manage the allocation and reporting of financial, human and physical resources to support the MIF program. In doing so, the Program Director will reinforce and advance the reputations for Western, WORLDiscoveries, BrainsCAN and the MIF locally, nationally and internationally, and enhance the MIF program’s brand recognition.

The Business Development Officer, WORLDiscoveries Asia (WD Asia) will support the development and implementation of strategies to build and expand a network of business clients among University Technology Transfer Offices (TTO), research institutions, and hi-tech small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) across Ontario and Canada, with an aim for WD Asia to represent and promote a robust portfolio of Canadian innovation projects and technologies in Asia for potential partnerships with Asian industry and investment community. In collaboration with the Director, WD Asia, the incumbent will seek out business opportunities and maintain relationships with Canadian organizations who have an interest in pursuing research and development based partnerships and gaining access to the local markets in Asia.
