Business Development Manager, Life Sciences
on February 5, 2019The Business Development Manager leads, develops and implements strategies to enhance commercialization of intellectual property created by Western faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students and staff and provides support in matters related to industrial interactions and intellectual property management under the area of Life Sciences. The incumbent will establish relationships in order to solicit new innovations for WORLDiscoveries, seek out commercialization opportunities and maintain relationships with industry, partners and other stakeholders in order to reinforce and advance the reputation of Western and WORLDiscoveries locally, nationally and internationally.
The Business Development Manager will research and evaluate innovation disclosures, develop and manage patent processes, determine commercial potential for innovations, make decisions on technology investments, and develop and execute related marketing plans. The incumbent will negotiate terms and conditions of licenses, research and development agreements, and material transfer and confidentiality agreements. The Business Development Manager will identify opportunities for prototype development funding, assist with spin-off company creation, including business plan preparation, market research, developing research and development plans with inventors, and strategic planning.
Patent & Market Analyst
on November 6, 2018The Patent and Market Analyst is responsible for analyzing the feasibility of protecting inventions that are disclosed to WORLDiscoveries®, as well as providing key intelligence on market environment and opportunities. In collaboration with Business Development Managers (BDMs), faculty members, students, staff and administration, the incumbent is responsible for matters related to intellectual property (IP), market research, and other related topics. The Analyst provides support for grant application writing for multiple funding agency programs (CIHR-POP, NSERC-i2i, and Western Innovation Fund), establishing relationships with BDMs, faculty, library services, and other stakeholders in order to obtain appropriate information and by utilizing their knowledge of databases and other information resources. The incumbent provides expert advice and guidance on intellectual property and patent laws, as well as of the process of commercialization of IP created in a university environment in the areas of science and technology. The Analyst recommends, after a strategic analysis of all the data collected on a given topic of research or invention, whether to invest in a technology and protection strategies for the IP at hand.
Project Coordinator
on October 23, 2018The Project Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the logistical and day-to-day activities supporting Western’s Medical Innovation Fellows (MIF) program and various partnered programs for WORLDiscoveries (WD). The incumbent provides relationship initiation and maintenance with MIF program stakeholders, including both internal and external from the entrepreneurship community, collaborating academic institutions and funding partners. The Project Coordinator will assist in the implementation and coordination of projects and engaging with various stakeholders for the planning and organization of workshops, conferences and events with the goal of expanding program outreach and promoting the MIF program globally. The incumbent will ensure that project outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary constraints, and will communicate progress updates to internal and external stakeholders.
